Apple orchards and natural landscapes
Feel free to lose yourself in one of the countless small bucolic roads that ply the road of cider and its groves. No large fields, multitudes of meadows and orchards high stems or low stems apple or pear, traversed by peaceful herds of cows and horses.
Cambremer
Cambremer, a charming village with authentic architecture, welcomes every Sunday of summer an old-fashioned market. Gastronomic step, it is the starting point of the Cider Route and receives every year the festival of AOC – AOP where Norman producers meet the general public. In this pretty village, visit the remarkable gardens of the Pays d’Auge, one of the exhibitions organized at the Grange aux Dimes, and nearby the medieval castle of Crèvecoeur-en-Auge.
Beuvron-en-Auge
Unmissable and wonderfully preserved, Beuvron-en-Auge is classified by the association “the most beautiful villages of France”. The restored halls with old materials, the 15th century manor house, the Saint-Martin church, the half-timbered houses of the 17th and 18th centuries are an architectural heritage of the purest Norman style. The village hosts each May in the geranium fair and in October the cider festival.
Bonnebosq
Nestled between two hills, built around the river Dorette, the village of Bonnebosq does not lack charm. You can admire a former wash house, many houses of the nineteenth century and a neo-Gothic church dedicated to St. Martin, which is celebrated each year in July at a traditional festival. At a corner of a street, Yul Brynner Stadium is named after this illustrious American actor who used to stay in his Bonnebosq mansion.
A multitude of villages and localities
Beyond these 3 “capitals” of the Cider Road, go donkey in one of the small towns, like Beaufour-Druval or Montreuil-en-Auge. Admire a mansion or a timber-framed building at the bend of a path or hedge, or one of the many oratories along the roads. Amaze yourself in front of a “small” town hall so typical of this area and of course, enter one of the splendid churches.
